Neil Harris has revealed what referee Darren Bond told him after the game following Pontus Jansson’s yellow card in Millwall’s late defeat to Leeds United.

The defender was adjudged to have used his elbow when he clashed with Jed Wallace during a counter-attack, leaving the winger incensed.

After the referee booked him for the foul play he was promptly substituted by Marcelo Bielsa, however, Harris felt the incident was “cynical play”.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, he said: “I just spoke with Darren, the referee, before I came in because I knew you'd ask me so I wanted to be clear.

“He's given a yellow card for stopping his [Wallace’s] progress moving forward. I just asked him, did he not think it was cynical play by use of the forearm or the elbow. He said no.

“I've only seen it in real time at the moment and I've thought he's [Jansson] done him on purpose.

“I need to see it again on TV to judge but it was a key moment because it was 2-1 at the time and I thought the fine margins like that fell Leeds' way quite a few times during the game - the penalty in the first half, the red card incident that could've been.

“But take nothing away, Leeds are obviously a top side and we've run them very close today.”
