Jonny Williams believes the current Charlton squad is a Championship standard squad.

The January signing from Crystal Palace has impressed at The Valley and in the two months he’s been with the club he knows they can compete in the tier above.

After leaving the field through injury in Saturday’s ‘massive’ 2-1 win over promotion rivals Portsmouth, the Welsh international praised his teammates.

“It’s a massive win” said the 25-year-old.

“It’s a shame we aren’t closer to the top two with performances like that.

“Portsmouth have been in the top two pretty much the whole season so for us to play like we did, we showed we were the better team and got the deserved points, which we haven’t been getting recently.

“We’ve been getting a lot of draws, so it’s nice to get a win."

Championship Quality Squad

Williams who is on a six month deal at Charlton was open to extending his stay with the club, but like so many oit was dependent on what level they will be playing at next season.

"I'm really enjoying it here, I’m open to whatever.

"You obviously want to play as high as you can, I've enjoyed my time here.

"The boys are great, and it’s a Championship quality squad we've got here that is playing in League One.

Burton Too Soon?

Charlton welcome Burton Albion on Tuesday and Williams, who’s had a torrid time with injury throughout his short career, says he is touch and go on whether he will be available.

“I felt a little tweak in my hamstring.

“I know my own body and I don’t want to make it worse.

“I can’t say how long it’ll be but Tuesday is probably too soon and knowing how my body is, I’ll have to be careful.”
