Lee Bowyer has conceded that the top two is out of reach for his men but his side should be praised for their efforts with all the off-field dramas at the club.

Charlton are ten points behind Barnsley in second and five points ahead of Peterborough in seventh, an achievement the manager thinks is lost on many folk considering the spending power of those around them.

“I was still trying to go for top two, but not winning today - that’s done now,” said the manager.

“All I do is concentrate on my job and that is get promotion.

“Everything else that’s happened off the pitch has happened, people make it in to negative stories.

“But for me, it should be good stories, we’ve lost one in five, in the top five and looking for promotion, there’s a lot of positives news to talk about.

“There’s good stuff that happening, I don’t talk about the negative stuff.”

Bowyer who watched the game from the stand as he serves the first of a three-game touchline ban admitted that there was little difference in watching his men from the dug-out to the seated area.

“There was no difference, they just hear a different voice shouting on the bench.

“It’s a lot clearer up there.

“You have the vantage point, so no, no different.”

Charlton face Portsmouth next weekend.
