‘No chance.’

That was Charlton manager Lee Bowyer’s answer when asked if he will pair Naby Sarr with fit-again Jason Pearce at the heart of Charlton’s back-line.

Bowyer has recently stated that Sarr is un-droppable, and alongside Patrick Bauer they have formed an impressive partnership keeping four clean-sheets in seven games.

“Pearce and Sarr, I tried it earlier this season and it didn’t work,” said Bowyer ahead of his side’s trip to Doncaster.

“When Pat was out and Krystian (Bielik) was injured I played them together and it didn’t work, so it won’t happen, no chance.”

Earned the Shirt

Sarr’s form, capped with a stunning goal in the Addicks 2-1 victory at Kingsmeadow last Saturday has earned the 25-year-old rave reviews at the Valley recently, and it’s not gone unnoticed by the Charlton boss.

“Naby is in the side, he’s earned it, he grabbed his opportunity and it’s his until he lets it go.

“If you’re playing well you stay in the side.”

News Shopper:

Pearce has overcome a long-term injury and has been fit enough enough to be available for selection for the past two matches, but such is the strength of Charlton’s defensive unit, Bowyer is reluctant to make any changes despite knowing the captain's worth.

“Pearcey is our leader and our captain but the back four as a whole have been keeping clean sheets.

“I’ve got a very good goalkeeper on the bench who’s been here since January,

“Why? Because Dillon (Phillips) is doing well.

“That’s the way it is, and that’s every football club, if you earn the right to play, you play.”
