Lee Bowyer claims his side are not weaker following the transfer window but admitted it was a frustrating afternoon in their goalless draw with Blackpool.

Charlton were held by a stubborn Blackpool side at The Valley in a result that leaves the Addicks with no win in four and only four points clear of Peterborough in seventh.

Bowyer however remained confident in achieving his side’s objective of promotion this season and that the loss of their top scorer Karlan Grant is not the reason for recent results.

“I wouldn’t say we lack quality, we’ve only lost one player,” said Bowyer.

“He wasn’t the one who created all those chances, we as a team created those chances so I wouldn’t say we’re lacking quality.”

Instead, Bowyer was keen to point out the positives of his side’s display having had to cope with injury, suspension, and the sale of Grant.

“There’s always a positive, we’ve only lost one in four, and three before that we didn’t have our main striker, and two before that we didn’t have our other striker. 29 goals between them and we didn’t have either of them. It’s been tough.”

“Blackpool made it hard for us. I thought we defended very well but in that final third again it’s just letting us down at the moment. We created chances but we just didn’t take them.

“It’s two points dropped which is our own doing.”

“It’s going to be tough. Games that are going by that we aren’t winning is going to make things a lot, lot harder. Is it possible? Yeah, but it’s getting a lot, lot harder.”

Fosu

One player who came in for criticism last week was Traiqe Fosu who failed to make the match day squad against Blackpool. On his omission Bowyer said:

“Tariqe is not injured. I picked the 18 I thought we could win the game with.”

Charlton travel to AFC Wimbledon next Saturday.
