Lee Bowyer lamented his wide men’s display in their 1-1 draw against ten-man Southend United.

The Charlton boss was left unimpressed with his side’s ruthlessness in attack as he singled out Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall who occupied the flanks.

Ben Reeves cancelled out Stephen Humphrys first half strike on the hour but despite being up against ten men after Dru Yearwood’s dismissal on 30 minutes, the home side failed to capitalise leaving Bowyer feeling it was ‘two dropped points.’

“It drives me crazy at times, we think it’s too easy,” said a frustrated Bowyer.

“We want automatic promotion but that’s not good enough.

“We have to be more clinical in front of goal.

"Our final ball was not good enough most of the afternoon.

“Our two wide men, their end product was not good enough.

“I’ve said to them, when you cross it, a cross is a pass, don’t lump it, look up and see who you want to get.

“It’s two points dropped, simple as that.”

Igor Vetokele led the line for Charlton alongside Marshall who was a surprise selection to start up top by Bowyer before shifting him to the wing in the second half.

Asked if the selection worked Bowyer left little to the imagination.

“I thought he’d cause problems and get in behind but he didn’t really.

“It didn’t work.

“I had to try something because we don’t have many strikers with Karlan (Grant) leaving and Lyle (Taylor) suspended.

“It’s why I changed it at half time and brought Josh (Parker) on.”

The result sees Charlton remain in the play-off places but are five points ahead of Doncaster in sixth who have two games in hand over the Addicks.
