Igor Vetokele’s return from injury at Fleetwood was one of Charlton’s few positives from their 1-0 defeat according to manager Lee Bowyer.

Despite handing transfer deadline day signing Josh Parker his debut from the bench, it was Vetokele’s return from a dislocated shoulder that pleased Bowyer most from a game which he admitted they were second best.

Ched Evans’s strike on 68minutes and Pat Bauer’s late dismissal compounded a tumultuous week for the Addicks having sold 14 goal forward Karlan Grant to Huddersfield on Tuesday.

“It was good to see him back, but we’re going to have to work hard with him now,” said Bowyer.

“He has to get fit as quickly as possible because we don’t have many options now.

"The quicker we can get him fit, the better for everybody."

On the game itself Bowyer conceded that the result which drops them to fifth in League One was fair and that Joey Barton’s side were better in all areas.

“We got what we deserved and that’s nothing,” said Bowyer.

“It was bad from start to finish and it’s not like us.

“We’ve been good all season and this is one of those bad ones that we’re just going to have to forget and move on as quick as possible, and we will.

“We leave disappointed with no points, but we didn’t deserve to win the game. We carried too many people today and that’s the truth.

“I know what we have to do. We have to win games.

“We’ve got two home games coming up and we have to win them both.”

Charlton welcome Southend United and Blackpool before travelling to Kingsmeadow to face AFC Wimbledon.
