Ben Reeves is determined to find the back of the net more often as he aims to get into the double figures for goals with Charlton this season.

The midfielder, who has two to his name so far, rued the scoring chances both he and his team-mates missed in the goalless draw with Peterborough United.

Karlan Grant would miss from the penalty spot late on as the Addicks couldn’t find the clinical touch to claim all three points against the Posh.

While Reeves has operated as a deeper-lying creator in Lee Bowyer’s diamond midfield, the 27-year-old is looking to get on the scoresheet with more regularity.

He said: “I need to relax a bit more, I think. I just need to get forward a bit more.

“I've been playing a bit deeper to what I'm used to so I'm maybe a bit more cautious than what I was used to be like - I used to get chances and get a few more goals than I have done - so I'd like to do better with the goalscoring side of things.

“Hopefully I can start doing that and get more in the second half of the season.”

Reeves also admits he should be looking at goal more than for a pass if he is to reach a double-digit goal tally during the rest of the campaign.

He added: “I think maybe just looking for goal a bit more rather than looking for a pass, or something like that. I just need to start looking for goal a bit more again and, hopefully, I'll get the chances again and kick on.

“I always hope to get double figures in the season so hopefully they will just come in the second half [of the campaign].”

Grant, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the Valley during the January transfer window, played as the lone frontman in the trip to Peterborough.

Charlton’s leading scorer also cracked the crossbar from inside the box as the Addicks grew into the game after surviving heavy pressure during the opening stages.

Reeves has also spoken about what it was like to play with someone like him.

After the draw with Peterborough, he said: “It was a shame today. There were a couple chances I had to slip him in, or Jonny [Williams] had to slip him in, and he's so quick.

“You know if he can get his shot off it's likely to be on target as well, so he's easy to play with.

“For someone like me and the way we played today, picking up the ball in the pockets, the little holes, and then just trying to slide him in, I thought it worked.”
