Charlton’s Lee Bowyer believes the decision to not overturn Lyle Taylor’s red card is a ‘joke.’

Taylor received his marching orders in the 1-0 Accrington Stanley win at The Valley on Saturday and Charlton’s unsuccessful appeal means the striker will miss the Addicks next three matches.

The Charlton boss claimed he can’t see the logic in the decision, and that the system needs to be looked at.

“I think it’s a joke really!” said Bowyer.

“I can’t see what Lyle’s done wrong.

“Someone’s leaning on him and he’s pushed him off him. Yeah, he’s used his foot but that was the only part of his body he could use. The fella is putting all his body weight on him, if he could’ve used his arms he would’ve used his arms but he couldn’t reach.

“So he’s done that and he’s got a three game ban, it’s never violent conduct.

“I don’t know why the FA bring in these independent people, who’ve never been in that situation in their lives. They don’t understand and because of that we are getting punished.”

Taylor will miss crucial ties against Peterborough, Fleetwood and Blackpool for ‘violent conduct,’ and Bowyer believes it is just another mistake by the League made against Charlton this season.

“It seems one thing after the other,” continued Bowyer.

“We’ve had three letters back from the FA, from the officials apologising that they should’ve sent players off in games, two of which we lost.

“Sick and tired of getting letters from them apologising for their mistakes, and this is another mistake.”

Stanley keeper Jonny Maxted, who was also sent off in the same incident, saw his red card rescinded by the FA, however Sam Finlay faces up to four games following a charge of improper conduct for his involvement in the melee that ensued.

Bowyer spoke of the potential ban of the Stanley player but was left unimpressed by the disparity between both incidents and the level of punishment.

“Their player has (potentially) got a four game ban when he’s scraped his studs down Lyle’s head, one game more for what Lyle did.

“Tell me the sense in that?

“I’m not saying it to get the player more punishment, I’m just saying how can you say that is one game more than what Lyle done.

“The whole system is wrong, its just my opinion. It’s wrong.

“These people who are making big decisions are costing us.

“At the moment we’re doing so well to be where we are at the moment.

“Everything is against us.”
