Blackburn’s visit to The Den this weekend will come too soon for Lee Gregory according to manager Neil Harris.

The then in-form striker has not played since leaving the field early with a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest 11 days ago.

“Lee Gregory is progressing really well,” said Harris

“We don’t think it’s going to be four to six weeks.

“This game comes too soon for him, but there’s a good chance for him for Boro. (A week Saturday)"

In his absence Harris is expected to continue the partnership of Aiden O’Brien with Tom Elliott in attack as the Lions seek their fifth consecutive win.

There was better news for captain Shaun Hutchinson who is expected to be available after overcoming a nasty gash to his shin he picked up in a freak accident carrying the bins out on New Year’s Day.

“Hopefully he’ll be back on the training pitch, it’s one day at a time with him.

“If not this weekend then he should be fine for Boro.”

One man who is certain to play will be Ryan Leonard.

Captaining the side in their 2-1 win over Hull City on Sunday the midfielder has impressed this term since making the initial loan move from Sheffield Untied, a move which has now been made permanent.

Speaking to Sky Sports News the 26-year-old expressed his gratitude to the manager who he played alongside at Southend, in bringing him to the club.

“He’s not changed a single bit,” said Leonard.

“Same on the pitch as he was off it.

“Good guy, top man, we got on well at Southend and he’s put his trust in me and hopefully I can repay him a little bit.

“It’s nice to get on the pitch again, I had a spell when I wasn’t playing so for me to come here and get straight in the team the manager has helped me a hell of a lot.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here and I like to think my performances have shown that and long may it continue.”
