Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace fell to a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

Here's how the players rated in the poor encounter.

Vicente Guaita

Kept his place in the starting line-up despite Hennessey’s return to fitness. Had an early clearance charged down which would’ve unnerved many but went on to make a fine string of saves justifying his selection. 7

Patrick van Aanholt

Looked a little lackadaisical in possession as he was hounded by Willian and Ngolo Kante constantly. Tried to get forward and support Schlupp down the left but such was Chelsea’s dominance those opportunities were as rare as a Brexit good-news story. 5

James Tomkins

Didn’t put a foot wrong alongside Sakho and looking close to his early season form. Imperious under the high-ball and gave Giroud little change. 6

Mamadou Sakho

Guilty of a misplaced pass in the first half which wasn’t punished. Maybe could’ve done better for the opening goal as he miss-judged Luiz’ through ball. 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Up against an in-form Eden Hazard and an attacking left-back in Marcos Alonso but the right back once again put in performance far beyond his years. Looked unsure in attack but one of Palace's best performers. 6

Jeffrey Schlupp

Still building a partnership with PvA and looks more of a threat on the flank than the benched Max Meyer. Was caught of position on a couple of occasions when Chelsea piled down the right-hand side. 6

Luka Milivojevic

The captain seems to be finding his form and understanding his more defensive role as the season goes on. Aquitted himself well up against a formidable passing midfield of Kante, Barkley and Jorginho. Become the force he was. 7

Cheikhou Kouyate

A quiet but industrious game for the midfield man. Didn’t go on any lung busting runs we so often see but was disciplined alongside Milivojevic in trying to keep the Chelsea midfield honest. 6

James McArthur

Was the man who was tasked with getting forward from the middle of the park, but this proved tricky with the amount of possession Chelsea had. Solid enough on the defensive side as usual, but lacked creativity going forward.5

Andros Townsend

A frustrating day for the wide man. Alonso and Luiz were weary of his talent of cutting inside and getting his shot off and dealt with him accordingly. Isolated when going forward and was often too far from goal when he did have the ball.6

Wilfried Zaha

If Townsend was frustrated then Zaha must’ve been incensed. Leading the line alone isn’t new for the Ivorian, but so poor was the service up to him he may as well have been in the stand. Looked a relieved man when Wickham came on the pitch. 6

Subs:

Connor Wickham

Introduced to a rapturous applause. Caused Chelsea’s back-line a more physical problem as expected and offered support to Zaha to get in the game. Should’ve come on sooner, but the good news is that he’s back playing. 7

Max Meyer
