Lyle Taylor struck his 10th league goal this season against his former club as Charlton cruised past AFC Wimbledon at the Valley.

The 27-year-old, who was a doubt to be involved at all, put in Nicky Ajose’s cross on the hour before substitute Mark Marshall completed a smart move.

Despite Naby Sarr’s sending off, the Addicks kept pressure on the Dons and had chances to score through Joe Aribo and Tariqe Fosu.

Charlton are fifth in League One, level on points with Peterborough United, following their two wins this week.

Lee Bowyer made three changes to the team which defeated Portsmouth in midweek, with Taylor, Chris Solly and Tariqe Fosu starting.

The hosts got off to the worst-possible start when Sarr was shown a straight red after just 56 seconds with a late challenge on Tennai Watson – the quickest in Charlton’s history.

Though the visitors would be a man down themselves when Mitch Pinnock received two yellow cards in 12 minutes.

As the rain swept through the Valley, there was little between the two teams – with fouls being more prominent than chances created in the first half.

But Charlton would break the deadlock through Taylor on 60 minutes, courtesy of Ajose’s driven delivery into the 18-yard box.

Wimbledon had a mini-resurgence but their chances were soon scuppered Marshall’s right-footed strike beat goalkeeper Joe McDonnell on 86 minutes.

Jed Steer would be forced into a save after Tom Soares’ long-range strike as Charlton secured all three points.
