Buoyed by signing a new three-year contract in the summer he produced some fine displays in August and September.

Competition for his spot was intensified in the summer also with the arrival of Vincente Guaita which seemed to have upped the 31-year-olds game.

It was thought Palace had turned their poor return of points around keeping back-to-back clean sheets at Manchester United and at home to Burnley.

It was a false dawn and the Welsh international’s form seems to have been reflected in recent results. He was unconvincing at Brighton and at West Ham.

Looking, once again, shaky under the high-ball he seems to have been affected by Palace’s poor run of results and anxiety at the club.

With the attack not making the most of their chances it seems the whole defensive unit know that if they don’t keep a clean sheet then it is unlikely they’ll walk away with any points.

Huddersfield are the only side to score fewer than Palace thus far so the emphasis on keeping a clean sheet is that much higher for Roy Hodgson’s side, and although they’ve not conceded anything like those sides below them, the fact they’ve conceded seven in their last two will alarm the Eagles faithful.

Despite wearing 13 on his back he’ll be hoping for a change of luck for his side come the new year.
