Roy Hodgson was diplomatic when answering questions surrounding Mamadou Sakho’s comments regarding a potential move away from Selhurst Park.

Whilst on international duty the French defender aroused speculation that he wanted to move from South London in order to play Champions League football.

Hodgson however, could not criticise the 27-year-old.

“We know Mamamdou is committed,” said Hodgson.

“We know we’ll continue to have that commitment but if he’s got ambitions to leave he’s got two years on his contract left and we’ll have to deal it.

“His performances this year and attitude have been exemplary, so I don’t pay attention to any stories that come out of international camps.

“I don’t think one can criticise players who are playing very well at the top of their game and getting international recognition,

“I don’t know any potential moves he's talking about, but we aren’t faced with any bid.”

Hodgson’s reaction comes after Sakho is allegedly to have said:

“I have always worked to reach the highest levels of club football and selection. My ambition remains the same, I want to be present in the biggest possible competitions. Is the Champions League in my mind? Why not?”

Sakho arrived at Crystal Palace in 2017 for a fee of £27million and became a fan favourite immediately. Any potential suitors of the centre-back will need to not be put off by his £100k a week wages.

Sakho is expected to start at Manchester Untied this weekend.
