Lee Bowyer was left questioning his side’s attitude after Charlton’s 1-0 defeat at Rochdale on Saturday.

The loss and the midweek draw with Oxford leaves Charlton with one point from six after their fine win over Barnsley last week.

Despite having a Lyle Taylor penalty saved and hitting the wood-work twice Charlton were ‘not good enough’ according to Bowyer.

“I’ve questioned them and their attitude because, for me, that wasn’t good enough,” said Bowyer.

“First half, we were very poor. We didn’t compete, we didn’t pass the ball and everything we’re good at we just didn’t do. I don’t know whether we thought we could just turn up and be handed three points, but that isn’t football.

“We have to fight and compete as a minimum. We certainly didn’t do that in the first half.”

The dejected manager says his side didn’t deserve anything out of the game despite the number of chances they created.

“We missed a penalty, we hit the bar, the keeper made a great save from Josh. We had all those things, but we still didn’t do the right things, so it’s all irrelevant.

“It was slightly better second half, but still not good enough – not for what we are and what we’re about.

“It’s disappointing, but we’ll go again, keep working at it and I’m sure we’ll get it right.”

One person who did impress for the away side was Darren Pratley. The midfielder has been used as a centre half in recent games and has received praise from critics and most importantly Bowyer who said he was ‘outstanding.’

After the Rochdale defeat the former Bolton and Swansea man said that they may have been guilty of looking too far ahead in the league following some impressive displays against the ‘bigger’ teams in the table.

“The games come thick and fast in this league. We’ve got to stay positive and it’s still early doors. Just over a quarter of the season has gone and hopefully we can put it right next week.

“We have to regroup and go again. We’ve got a tough game at home to Doncaster on Saturday and ideally we’d have a game on Tuesday because we want to put things right.

“Maybe we’re looking too much at the top two but we need to concentrate on the next game, get the three points and then move on.”

Charlton now sit 13th in the table one place ahead of their conquerors Rochdale.
