Neil Harris said that despite being at their best, Millwall were professional and clinical at key moments in their 3-0 victory over Ipswich.

Lee Gregory scored a brace and Ryan Leonard scored his first goal for the club as Millwall have gained a possible nine points from four games.

“I will be honest, that was not our best performance for a while. I thought it was extremely professional. We could have played better at 3-0 up certainly but I don’t give a damn about that, I just wanted a clean sheet.

“It is not easy for Ipswich with the position they are in with the transition of a manager coming in and being here today. But it is not easy for us either. You can’t prepare because you don’t know who you are going to face and you what formation you are going to face.

I thought without being at our best we was clinical at key moments. We created some chances, not as many as we have done but to get the clean sheet and give up very few opportunities is an excellent performance in the championship.

Harris opted to start Shaun Hutchinson for the first time since August which meant that Murray Wallace played left-back leaving James Meredith, who had started 60 consecutive games for the Lions prior to today was on the bench.

“Hutch has been short of game time due to injury. Was I tempted to put him back in before? Yes of course but you also want to be loyal to players who are performing well individually but we haven’t had that clean sheet mentality.

Was it a coincidence? He is a leader, he is a good defender, he is a warrior and I think it was a good one to come back into today.

“I thought Murray has been outstanding for us the last month or so. I did not want to take him out of the team. James Meredith has had a long summer and his performances has not been at quite the level week in week out that we saw last year.

I have seen Murray play quite a lot at left-back last year and his use of the ball is very very good. Certainly, he will improve as he goes over the course of the next year or so with us. He has a fantastic delivery and is a good crosser of the ball. I was really pleased with him.
