After beating Ipswich 3-0 and achieving back-to-back wins for the first time since April here are five things we learned from the match.

Murray Wallace Can Play Left Back –

Many eyebrows were raised when people saw that Harris had opted to start three of Millwall’s four senior centre backs against Ipswich. Shaun Hutchinson returned from the side after recovering from Injury, meaning James Meredith was dropped. Murray Wallace, who filled in for Hutchinson during his absence was shifted to fullback.

The summer signing from Scunthorpe is a registered left footed centre back by stature and by nature. However, the Scotsman slipped into the fullback role seamlessly and put in a solid performance.

Millwall fans are now thinking that Murray Wallace may be a better investment than they initially thought.

Ryan Leonard is a Swiss Army Knife –

Ryan Leonard has not put a foot wrong in a Millwall shirt since signing for a record fee on transfer deadline day and Saturday was no different. It seems with every game the former Sheffield United player displays a different weapon in his armoury.

On his debut, it was his long throw which played a huge role in the opening goal. It was no surprise that the same move was replicated for Gregory’s second against Ipswich.

Against Aston Villa and Wigan, Leonard showed his terrier-like tackling and pressing which caused the oppositions best players to become frustrated. In addition to this, against Ipswich Leonard showed one more key attribute. Composure. He went close with a stunning chest and volley in the first half and his goal was a first-time lob from 25-yards.

Leonard is proving to be one of Millwall’s best assets as he has so many attributes to offer. He is a Swiss army knife and many are excited to see if he has anything else tucked away that he is waiting patiently to use.

Lee Gregory is in the form of his life –

Lee Gregory is also another player who has been performing at a high standard for Millwall. The striker scored 10 goals in all competitions last season but finds himself shy of 3 goals to match that target already.

His 7 goals so far have been crucial ones for the Lions, with only the goal against Sheffield United resulting in a loss. Both goals against Ipswich were exquisite. The first showed his movement and control to smash home from close range in a crowded area while his second proved his smarts by getting in front of the defender at the near post and then flicking the ball behind them both to score.

The former non-league striker is in the form of his life and there is no one saying that he can’t go on to score 15+ goals for the Lions this season.

Set Pieces are Millwall’s Forte –

Whether it is a corner, a deep free kick or even a throw Millwall look most dangerous when they are granted a set piece in the oppositions half. With Ryan Leonards throwing capabilities and Shane Ferguson’s deliveries the Lions have scored nine times from set pieces already this season, compared to last season’s 12.

It is no surprise then that centre back, Jake Cooper is joint top of the leagues assist table with five. Millwall know what they are good at and they execute it well.

Paul Lambert Has a Huge Job on His Hands –

Ipswich were unsurprisingly poor on Saturday afternoon. The tractor boys failed to register a shot on target despite having 60% of possession.

New manager Paul Lambert could only watch from the stands as his appointment only came 24 hours prior to the match at The Den. His new side sit at the foot of the table with only nine points and going from their performance against the Lions, the Scotsman has a huge job on his hands if things are going to change.
