As the dust settles on an eventful second half at the Den, here are five things we learned from Millwall’s 2-1 win over Wigan.

Trust in Harris –

Many times this season Harris has said post-match that he will find the ‘right formation’ to attack this seasons campaign, usualy to the the groans of the fans following another abject defeat. But, he seems to have turned the corner with this performance. His players seem to have belief in what he is building at The Den and have invested in the programme. Despite a crazy defeat at Reading where the Lions dominated, the Millwall faithful have seen a stark improvement in performances and results over the last four games.

We should learn never too doubt the man that has given everything to this club.

Flank Attack-

Millwall’s strengths lie on the wings, and today in Jed Wallace and Shane Ferguson they had old fashioned wingers who wanted to beat a man and get that cross in. At times it was a joy to watch and in Ferguson they have a man who can deliver a ball as good as any in the league. They may not have scored in the first half, but a tot-up of chances created against Reading and Wigan will make interesting reading. Millwall are no longer the long ball team many think of.

Big man- Little Man –

The tried and tested formula up top. It is working. But sometimes it’s hard to know which role Lee Gregory is playing as he’s everywhere. Defences must be all at sea marking the number 9, especially if Tom Elliott or Steve Morison want to throw their head in the mix as well. Who-ever starts for Millwall, it seems to be working. Some of the football on display on Tuesday night was some of the best of the season.

Williams can hit a penalty –

Not much to say other than the Irishman can strike a penalty. Very very well. In the words of Alan Partridge – ‘That is a goal.’

Strength but Depth?

The squad may be small compared to many in the league but the substitutes made against Wigan offered a lot of promise for the season ahead. With Morison, O’Brien and Hutchinson, Harris has three players who are genuine starters for the Lions. The fact that they can bring them off the bench shows how well the starting XI are performing right now.
