Sheffield United were the latest team to leave South Bermondsey with three points as Millwall’s problem of conceding late goals resurfaced when David McGoldrick scored two in the final 11 minutes.

The Lions recent form means they are currently 23rd in the table and without a win since the 18th of August.

This is the first time in three-years that Neil Harris’ management is being questioned as the team are not showing the same character that saw them go 18 games unbeaten last season.

Millwall have dropped a total of 9 points at home this season from goals that were conceded in the last 15 minutes and it is a problem that needs to be addressed by Harris.

There have been glimpses that last year’s performances were no fluke, by being the dominant team against both Leeds and Middlesbrough and then going ahead from behind against Sheffield United last week.

Poor defending and lapses in concentration however, have been their downfall this season, and if Millwall are to survive this storm they are going to need to reinvent that resilient record at the Den.

Harris has admitted that he is still searching for that winning formula after he has only named the same side on three occasions this season – all three opening games.

While Harris’ hand has been forced with the injury to Shaun Hutchison and then the loss of George Saville to Middlesbrough, all other changes have been subjective to a player’s form.

The success of last season is well and truly in the past and if they are to survive this season then they cannot rest on their laurels as Neil Harris more than anyone knows that surviving in the Championship takes more than just record-breaking signings.

Millwall have a challenge on their hands.
