Saturday’s hero Chris Solly says the belief in the squad this season is the difference.

The unlikely scorer of the late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Luton says that the quality and togetherness of the current crop of players sets them apart from squads he has previously been involved in.

Solly's first goal in over six years at Charlton extended Lee Bowyer’s side's undefeated run to six games and keeps them sixth in the table.

“The biggest difference this year is I feel we can score goals now,” said Solly.

“We can go one down and I still fancy us. Maybe we haven’t had that the last couple years. (Lyle) Taylor has been massive for us, Karlan (Grant) has come back this season flying, Igor (Vetokele) looks fit, Nick (Ajose) look sharp, so we’ve got four quality strikers.”

Although disappointed to surrender the lead at Kenilworth Road, Solly hailed the much-discussed fighting spirit of this Charlton side and the leadership of manager Lee Bowyer.

“We came here to get three points, but if we can’t win we’ll take the next best thing and take the point. The boys stuck together, (Lee) Bowyer cant praise us enough in the changing room, the fight we are showing as a team, with this run of results, it’s nice to stay unbeaten.

“We’ve got a great team spirit this year, close off the pitch as on it. It reminds me of the squad a few years back. It’s a close-knit group and that bodes well when you’re on the pitch, and you can see that when you come to places like this, that togetherness comes through.”

The recent run of results have all but rid early season fears held by many about the clubs on-field plight. Short on numbers, and quality, Solly admits they were anxious times at the club, but Bowyer has turned things around.

“I won’t lie but there were a few worries at the start of the season, but Bowyer said once everyone is fit, and he gets the players he wants, we’ll be right up there, and he was right.”

Charlton travel to Scunthorpe on Tuesday night hoping their fine form continues.
