Lee Bowyer paid tribute to Charlton’s fighting spirit after their last-gasp draw at Luton.

Two goals in seven second-half minutes from Harry Cornick and James Collins cancelled out Tariqe Fosu’s penalty - and a first defeat in six games looked on the cards for the Addicks.

But Chris Solly’s 95th-minute screamer snatched a deserved point after Jason Pearce and Joe Aribo hit the woodwork.

Valley boss Bowyer said: “I thought we were good again. We definitely didn't deserve to lose the game. I think a draw was a fair result - they're a good side. They tested us at times.

“We conceded a poor first goal and it gave them a lift. They caused us a bit of trouble but they weren't really hurting us.

“We were always dealing with what they were throwing at us. It’s just a poor first goal and it’s frustrating. If we don't concede that then we go on to win the game. It was just a matter of time before we were going to score another one.

“Overall it’s a good point when you’re 2-1 down going into injury time. It just shows the fighting spirit that the players have. They don't want to lose. I’m happy.

“They're disappointed because they didn't win! That just shows their expectation and they're pushing each other all the time.”

Solly’s strike was his first goal since October 2012 when his stunning volley against Blackpool secured a 2-0 win.

Bowyer added: “I said to him ‘get on the edge of the box’ because they didn't have anyone up to push towards the edge of the box.

“Thankfully it fell to him and he got a goal. We deserved it - we hit the bar twice in injury-time and you’re thinking ‘ah it’s going to be one of those things’.

“We should have had a penalty when Lyle was pulled back but maybe because the referee gave us a penalty in the first-half, he didn't want to give us one in the second-half. The lads did well.”

Fosu marked his first start of the season with a goal and was Charlton’s best player today.

Injury and suspension has severely limited the winger’s playing time.

Bowyer said: “He’s very good in possession. He’s unplayable at times - he does things and you think ‘wow’. We’re pleased to eventually get him back playing.

“I left him on longer than I should have done but it’s difficult. He looked quite sharp to me given the minutes he’s played this season.

“He looked good so that’s why I thought I’d leave him on a bit longer. I thought Igor [Vetokele] did very well as well. His and Lyle Taylor's work-rate was exceptional - they both put a shift in.

“That’s what we have - everyone fighting and pushing for positions. They all know that. Igor got his chance today and took it well.”
