Charlton’s lofty league position is partly down to the team spirit off the pitch according to Assistant Manager Johnnie Jackson.

The Addicks sit sixth in League One after a run of four league wins and Bowyer’s right-hand man believes the team spirit and camaraderie amongst the players was vital in the teams rise.

“It’s invaluable,” said Jackson.

“All the good sides I’ve played in, ask all the lads about the teams they had success with, they’ve always had that spirit, camaraderie. It could be worth a lot of points at the end of the season, when you do go behind, knowing that your mates are willing to run that little bit further for you and leave it all out on the pitch, stuff like that make a difference.”

Jackson and the team were talking to Charlton’s official website at a paintballing outing on a team bonding exercise.

Jackson’s thoughts were echoed by winger Mark Marshall.

“The mood in the camp is obviously good as we’ve won four on the bounce and it’s about having that togetherness off the pitch as well as on it. And we’ve definitely got that,” said the Jamaican.

The thoughts of the players reciprocated that of Bowyer after their 2-1 victory over Plymouth at the weekend. He said he had not seen a unity in another squad like it, and that the club should use it as an advantage. Words heeded by captain Jason Pearce.

“I’ve been in successful teams and doing this sort of stuff off the pitch and it only helps with the spirit of the team. All the lads get on really well this year and as Bow (Bowyer) said it’s quite unique to get that so hopefully it will have a positive enforcement and can push us up the league,” said Pearce.

Charlton travel to Luton this Saturday.
