There’s a new atmosphere at the Valley that’s spread to the training ground and it’s thanks to the manager according to Charlton midfielder Ben Reeves.

Speaking after Charlton’s 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle, Reeves claims the club has felt a lift ever since Lee Bowyer’s appointment was made permanent on September 6.

“He and Jacko (Johnnie Jackson) have been brilliant,” said Reeves.

“They’ve kept things simple. Everyone knows what they’re job is, people know what they’re doing and people know that they have to work hard, that’s the first thing that comes in to his side. Probably a bit like what he was as a player.”

“Training is intense now, everyone wants to get better, we’re fighting for places and players want to play. Players come from the bench and want to get the winner. Players want to be the player that makes the difference.”

Following the win over Plymouth, where Karlan Grant scored an 88th minute winner, Reeves said he always believed they would score and that there is a new belief within the squad this season.

“We were saying at half-time that these are the sort of games that you look back at if you draw and you think ‘we needed a win there’. I think all the boys had the feeling we would get the win. Luckily it was right at the end and it’s a big win for us.

“The main thing is that we’re all working hard for each other. That’s one of the big positives this year, we’re all working for each other.”

The Plymouth result puts them sixth in League One, five points off top placed Peterborough. They will be aiming to make it six matches unbeaten when they travel to 12th placed Luton on Saturday.
