Lyle Taylor will dye his hair pink and wear matching boots throughout October in a bid to fundraise money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The striker spoke candidly post-match after helping Charlton secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers at the Valley.

A JustGiving page has been setup, with a £2,000 target, and he aims to start a conversation about the disease which has affected those close to him.

Taylor said: “I've got my pink boots all ready, I've worn them in as well so they're ready to be worn.

“It's going to be good because as soon as somebody says to me, 'Why have you got pink hair?', that's my job done. It's starting a conversation.

“We [as players] are in a very fortunate position whereby we are revered, and we are looked up to and idolised. It's about me being able to give something back, especially when this is something that is close to my heart.

"It's affected me, my family, family friends, and people close to me.

“I'm sure there are a lot of people in this room it has affected as well, and it'll continue to do that until we can raise enough money to beat it.”

Taylor also opened up about the death of his aunty on the morning Charlton travelled to face AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup second round last season.

The 28-year-old, who was then with the Dons, said only the manager Neal Ardley was informed before he scored twice in the Addicks’ 3-1 defeat.

He added: “That was really tough, my teammates didn't know anything about it, the only person that knew was the manager. He said to me, 'What do you want to do?', and I said to him, 'The only thing I can do is do my job'.

“It's still hard thinking about it now but my uncle is doing okay, as well as can be expected. Then there are family friends, three of my grandparents...it's [the fundraiser] for everybody who has ever been touched by it. It's not about me.

“I'm simply using the platform that I've been given to try and get people to take notice.

“As I said, if I can get people to take notice then I've done my job.”
