Charlton supporters have planned demonstrations outside the EFL’s London and Preston offices on Friday September 14 in protest against the club’s owners.

Disputes between fans and club owner Roland Duchatelet have been ongoing since 2015 over unpaid bonuses and severe cost cutting which include the rationing of food and water for youth teams.

The Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet group, CARD, demonstration will be in partnership with Blackpool fans who are also hoping the EFL step in and take action against their club owners, the Oyston family, who were ruled by a High Court Judge in November of asset stripping the club.

CARD said: “Football fans in general, and Charlton and Blackpool supporters in particular, continue to be extremely frustrated by the EFL’s apparent unwillingness to address serious issues of poor governance at some of its clubs.

“What is happening at our clubs could impact anywhere, so we will welcome fans of all other clubs joining us.

“The EFL appears to be little more than a trade association with decisions taken by the clubs for the benefit of the clubs. But without fans it is nothing.”

The EFL issued a holding statement two weeks ago saying that they planned to meet club officials and supporters in mid-October to “gain a full understanding of the current situation at the club,” but CARD want more ‘urgency’ and ‘focus’ to resolve the issue.

The London demonstration will take place at 12:30pm on Blandford Street, whilst the Preston demonstration will start at 3pm.

News of the demonstration comes a day after Lee Bowyer was appointed manager until the end of the season on a permanent basis. Charlton host Wycombe at the Valley this weekend.
