Lee Bowyer believes Charlton’s goalless draw against Fleetwood was a fair result.

The visitors had the game’s best chances - Dillon Phillips produced an excellent save to deny Ashley Hunter, while Lewis Page cleared a Wes Burns effort off the line.

Charlton have won just one of their opening five league games.

Addicks boss Bowyer said: “We had 20 shots or 20 attempts and hit the target five times. A draw was fair result. It was a poor game. From back to front we were okay.

“It’s not like we played badly, we moved the ball well but again it was that final third - when they should shoot they pass and when they should pass they shoot.

“It’s frustrating, definitely. The most important thing for me is that they're getting there.

“We created and got into good positions and soon it’s going to click. To draw at home is not good enough if you want promotion. I told the players it’s not good enough for me. My standards and their standards are higher than that.

“We’ll have a full week’s training and we have to get it right for Southend, it’s going to be a tough game, a physical game.

“Today was just one of those days, no atmosphere in the stadium and some of the players looked tired, which they have every right to be because of the effort they put in on Tuesday was very high.

“Again the [injured] players coming back, they're not ready yet. I can’t make four or five changes because I’m putting kids in, I can’t do that, it’s not fair on the kids.

“I’ll integrate them one at a time, I can’t put four of them on at the same time.

“There are players coming back now, experienced ones, so competition for places will definitely be there. If you're not doing it every day in training, you don’t play.

“They know I'm true to what I say. The sooner we can get everyone back then we’ll go on a good run for sure.”
