Lee Bowyer has been charged by the FA after Charlton Athletic were defeated by Peterborough United at the Valley.

Jason Cummings converted in the 89th minute to see Posh win 1-0 at the Valley during midweek, but the caretaker boss made his feelings clear post-match.

He has been charged with misconduct by the FA following the match, to which it was felt he behaved "improperly".

The 41-year-old was booked by the official after having clashed with opposition boss Steve Evans.

Bowyer said: “He [Linington] is sitting in his room and thinks it’s acceptable to make a decision and then he’ll go home and sleep all right. But I know I won't and I know my players won't and I know most of our fans won’t. Is it acceptable? No.

“Am I probably going to get in trouble? Yeah. It is what it is. But should he get in trouble? Yeah. He shouldn't be refereeing. He shouldn't be able to ref the next game. He’s made a decision there and says the fella got pushed. The fella tried to dive to head the ball, there was no push, they were side by side.

“Is there contact? Of course there is. You've got two players running 100 miles an hour, one trying to defend and one trying to score, is there contact? Yes. But is it a penalty? No.”

Charlton have now only won one of their opening four League One matches following the midweek defeat.

The Addicks now head into their Fleetwood Town clash this Saturday with four points from a possible 12 and sit in 14th.

But they will have been boosted with the news that Ben Reeves, Igor Vetokele, Jason Pearce, and Tariqe Fosu are edging closer to a first-team return.

A FA spokesman said: “Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has been charged with misconduct following the game against Peterborough United after it was alleged his behaviour on the field of play was deemed to be improper.

"He has until 6pm on Thursday, August 30, to respond.”
