Charlton fans have been urged to protest at this weekend’s match against Fleetwood in another attempt to force the EFL to intervene with how the club is being run by owner Roland Duchatelet.

The protest organised by CARD, Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet, are urging supporters to get behind the movement in a stance of solidarity with club staff who are the ‘latest victims of a cost-cutting agenda.’

It is said the Belgian owner has reneged on bonuses promised to staff when certain targets were met.

With talk of a takeover by an Australian consortium stalling, the owners latest broken promises on top of cost cutting reports, including not buying paper towels for toilets at the ground and cleaners having their hours cut, seems to be the final straw.

CARD said: “(We) fully support any action taken by the staff in pursuit of their grievance, including if it leads to the postponement of Saturday’s match, because we believe that would be a proportionate outcome to the years-long betrayal of staff and supporters alike.

“This is the time for Charlton fans to stand up for their club – before there is nothing left to get behind."

Extreme measures have seen the club ration food and bottled water at the club’s training ground.

With no permanent team manager, no chief executive, no chief financial advisor and no chairman, CARD feel the situation warrants an intervention by the league’s superiors.

Despite the efforts of caretaker manager and coach, Lee Bowyer and Johnnie Jackson respectively, the financial woes have already been seen numerically with the Addicks unable to name a full substitutes bench in the opening fixture and naming almost an entire team from the under-23s squad in the Carabao Cup.

Initial calls for a boycott of the match against Fleetwood were scrapped in favour of a demonstration outside the main reception in the west stand car park 45 minutes prior to kick off.

Charlton currently sit 14th in the league following Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at home to Peterborough United.
