Naby Sarr’s late equaliser cancelled out Pascal Groβ’s early second-half strike to ensure Charlton Athletic shared the spoils with Brighton at the Valley.
The 24-year-old finished past Hugo Keto minutes into the closing stages as the Addicks pressed for a response through Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose.
And both sides nearly snatched the win – particularly the visitors at the death – but the two settled for a draw as triallist Rohan Ince also featured.
Here’s how News Shopper rated Charlton Athletic’s players…
Dillon Phillips – 7 – Forced into some tricky situations early on but dealt with it well. Made some great stops when called upon, but unfortunate to concede the goal.
Lewis Page – 6 – Rarely put a foot wrong, looked composed and led with his actions, not much got past him directly. Subbed off at half-time.
Naby Sarr – 9 – Grew into the game with confidence, but his aggressive style sometimes got the best of him by giving away needless fouls. Scored the equaliser. Man of the match.
Elliott Ward – 7 – Solid performance except for one scare with Glenn Murray, who didn’t torment the Charlton defence too much.
Mark Marshall – 5 – Got caught out a few times defensively and struggled against his marker but made an important block. Subbed off at half-time.
Albie Morgan – 5 – Passive first-half except for a long-range effort on the half hour and suffering an injury. Didn’t do too much except help out Marshall. Subbed off at half-time.
Jake Forster-Caskey – 6 – Made contributions in his defending with blocks and interceptions but couldn’t quite find the spark in attack.
Darren Pratley – 6 – Provided energy alongside Forster-Caskey with his physicality and made his presence felt defensively on an okay outing for the new signing. Subbed off at half-time.
Simon Dawkins – 5 – Didn’t take on his marker enough and didn’t provide the necessary threat out wide. Could have done more.
Nicky Ajose – 6 – Made important runs to try and open up Brighton’s defence, stretched the play, but found it difficult. Scuppered a potentially goal-scoring opportunity.
Josh Magennis – 6 – Made an excellent run to break through only to be denied by David Button an incredible three times from close range.
