Charlton have signed Darren Pratley on a two-year deal.
The midfielder was a free agent after leaving Bolton last month.
Pratley, 33, will compete with senior pros Jake Forster-Caskey and Joe Aribo for a starting place.
He said: “I’m delighted that it’s over the line now. It’s a massive club. I met the manager last week and we hit it off straight away.
“He was honest, told me what he wanted from me and told me all about the club. It felt like the right move for me and I can’t wait to get started.”
Charlton are still light in the middle of the park and caretaker boss Lee Bowyer could add another midfielder to his ranks before their opening day match at Sunderland next month.
Pratley arrives at the Valley with a wealth of experience following spells with Swansea and Bolton.
Bowyer added: “He’s going to be a good addition to the squad. He’s definitely something that we need.
“We have a man coming through the door – someone who is going to compete and fight and we were lacking that towards the end of last season.
“He’s seen it, been there and done it, he’s got promotions so he knows what it takes.”
Pratley captained Bolton to League One promotion in 2017, making 12 appearances.
