Igor Vetokele wants to stay at Charlton, Lee Bowyer has revealed.
The Addicks striker, who signed a five-year deal in 2014, has been on loan for the last two seasons in Belgium.
He started his Charlton career in red-hot form, scoring five goals in his first seven games, but injury has plagued his time in SE7.
And despite being one of Charlton’s high earners, Vetokele will fight for his place at the Valley next season.
Speaking after the Addicks’ 2-1 pre-season win over Welling, caretaker boss Bowyer told News Shopper: “From what I hear, he’s staying. He wants to stay.
“Apparently he’s been told ‘if you want to stay you can stay’. We spoke to him in Portugal and he said he wants to stay. That’s good for me.
“He has to fight for his place like everyone else. From what I saw against QPR and today, I think he’s going to score us goals and cause teams problems.
“He holds the ball up well, makes good runs. He’s definitely someone that will do well for us next season.”
