Neil Harris believes Chelsea legend Frank Lampard was always destined to be a manager.

The former England star, 39, was named Derby County boss last week.

It means Harris and Lampard, who both attended Brentwood School in Essex, will lock horns in the Championship next season.

When asked about the three-time Premier League winner’s appointment, Millwall chief Harris told News Shopper: “It adds a focus from the media to it.

“When there’s nothing happening player-wise over the last couple of weeks, I think it’s great for the media, him going in.

“It’s a tough gig managing in the Championship, the pressure of results week in, week out, the pressure of knowing if you perform at 80 or 85 per cent you’ll get beaten by whoever you're playing.

“It’s tough. I wish Frank all the best in the crazy world of management. It doesn't surprise me that he’s gone into management.

“I’ve listened to him on the television over the years and seen his character on the pitch. For me, he’s made to be a manager or a coach.”

Lampard, capped 106 times by England, made 649 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.
