Neil Harris says Jimmy Abdou is still good enough to play in League One or League Two.

The Millwall legend’s 10-year spell with the club came to an end following his release last month - and his testimonial game takes place at the Den on July 28.

Abdou, 33, had options to stay in England, but chose to go home to his boyhood club Martigues, who play in France’s fourth tier.

Millwall boss Harris told News Shopper: “If you said to Jimmy, when he came here from Plymouth and when he came to the country 13, 14 years ago that he’d still be here now, he would've thought you were mad.

“He came here, his English wasn't great and his missus didn't speak English. He had to find his way.

“He’s forged a fantastic career over here. He’s a brilliant character and a long-term friend of this club and of mine.

“He fully deserves the opportunity to say goodbye to his fanbase. I hope they come in their numbers to support him because he deserves it.

“But he deserves to go home and bring his kids up in France and enjoy the last few years of his playing career.

“Could he have stayed here and done a job? Yeah, 100 per cent, he could've still played in League One or League Two.

“He’s made the decision to go home and I think it’s a really sensible decision.”
