Southend have offered Millwall target Mark Oxley “the best contract for a goalkeeper in League One,” according to chairman Ron Martin.
Oxley’s deal runs out this summer and the Shrimpers are desperate to extend his stay at Roots Hall.
The ex-Hibernian stopper has been linked with a move to Millwall to provide more competition for Jordan Archer.
Martin said: “We’ve made Mark an offer which I think is the best a goalkeeper will get in League One.

“His agent has acknowledged it’s a good offer and we remain in talks. But I’m still hopeful at this stage.”
Oxley has made 75 appearances for Southend since joining in 2016.
