Charlton are playing with freedom under Lee Bowyer, according to Tariqe Fosu.

The Addicks star bagged a brace in the 4-0 win over Northampton on Friday to maintain the caretaker manager’s perfect start.

Charlton have scored six goals and conceded none in back-to-back victories since Bowyer replaced Karl Robinson last month. The tactical switch to a 4-4-2 diamond formation has played a huge role in the club’s revival.

Fosu, who scored his first goals since October to take his tally to nine for the season, said: “He’s allowing us to play freely and he’s not giving us too much pressure.

“We’re training hard every day and it’s just about putting it into games.

“He’s changed the formation and it’s working really well. It’s about continuing and getting three points.

“He’s just given us freedom and told us to go out and play.

“Obviously changing the formation has helped us a lot. [Michal] Zyro and Nicky [Ajose] have been very good so our link-up play has been very good as well.

“They've been holding up the ball, running in behind and they’re supporting us and affecting games.”

Charlton moved up to eighth after their emphatic win at Northampton - and are just two points from fifth-placed Scunthorpe with two games in hand.

Bowyer’s men take on promotion rivals Rotherham tomorrow. The Millers have won just once in five games.

Fosu said: “We want to get three points again on Monday. Everyone is buzzing and raring to go.

“The main objective has always been promotion and that’s not changed.

“We’ve been mentally strong and for us to come out and perform [like we did against Northampton], that’s very good for us.”
