Josh Magennis says it would be “catastrophic” if Charlton fail to finish in the top six.

The Addicks moved back into the play-off places after beating MK Dons on Saturday.

Magennis scored the winner at Stadium MK, his third goal of the month, which ended a run of three games without a win.

He said: “When I came here [in 2016], the expectation was to get back to the Championship and that hasn't changed. That’s where everyone is pushing.

“Playing for a team like Charlton, the expectation is there, that’s what brought me to the club. You have to have the expectation, you can’t shy away from it.

“Unfortunately some results haven't gone our way this season, but we just kept working hard and kept our heads down.

“We know we've got more than enough to go on and finish in the top six minimum. We’re in there now and it would be catastrophic if we didn't finish there.

“We've worked so hard to get there and to let it fall away would be ridiculous. So we’ll continue to work hard like we've been doing.

“We’re not just happy with sixth, we want to push on up the league as far as we can because at this stage of the season, we’re getting players back from injury.

“Normally it’s the stage where players get injured and people might start losing form. But there’s a good buzz around the place and we’re really enjoying our football at the minute.”

The Addicks are a point above seventh-placed Plymouth with two games in hand.
