Millwall manager Neil Harris revealed Shane Ferguson, Ben Thompson and Harry Toffolo were frustrated after being left out of the matchday squad against Cardiff.

The trio did not make the bench for the 1-1 draw last Friday and could miss out again at Birmingham tomorrow.

Ferguson has been in and out of the team this season, Thompson has made just eight appearances and Toffolo only joined from Norwich last month.

Harris told News Shopper: “They were disappointed, obviously. They’re three good lads.

“Harry’s still finding his feet, but Fergie and Ben want to be in the team.

“Ben missed out at Reading and once earlier in the season. He’s got all the attributes to be a top Millwall player. He’s proved his quality over the last couple of years.

“He’ll continue to do that in the forthcoming seasons.

“They’re frustrated because they want to play but they appreciate there are good players here. That’s the sign of the times.

“We don’t want to be scrambling to try to fill a bench, we want to work with a good squad that covers injuries and suspensions.

“The gulf between the Championship and other divisions is far greater than I’ve ever realised in the past.

“It’s gone to another level this year. It adds to the levels of our ability which means it’s hard to let them [fringe players] go out on loan if you haven’t got the bodies. I feel we’re in a good place squad-wise.”
