Ebbsfleet say Peter Varney’s departure has nothing to do with a potential takeover at Charlton.
The former Addicks chief executive will leave his role as Ebbsfleet vice-chairman and director next weekend.
Varney has been involved in leading a consortium to buy Charlton from unpopular owner Roland Duchatelet in the past.

And his Ebbsfleet exit has only increased talk of a return to SE7. However, the National League club were quick to dismiss the notion.
Ebbsfleet’s official Twitter page said: “We're not commenting any further on this story other than to say that there is no future involvement [from Varney] with CAFC [Charlton Athletic Football Club].”
