Roland Duchatelet is prepared to lower his asking price for Charlton.

The Belgian tycoon has been in talks with several interested parties over selling the League One club.

News Shopper has been told that his original asking price - a staggering £50m - is never going to be met and he is willing to accept a lower fee.

It is understood that the unexpected departure of countrywoman Katrien Meire, who resigned as chief executive to take up the same role at Sheffield Wednesday, has stunned Duchatelet.

Meire was Duchatelet’s link between Belgium and England where she regularly reported to him on business and football matters.

The Belgian lawyer’s departure has only reiterated the 71-year-old’s desire to leave English football - and News Shopper understands he now wants to sell-up as soon as possible.

Duchatelet paid around £20m for Charlton in January 2014 and instantly made himself unpopular after sacking Addicks legend Chris Powell.

He has presided over the sales of important first-teamers such as Yann Kermorgant, Dale Stephens and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, while flogging off young stars Joe Gomez and Ademola Lookman.

Duchatelet’s biggest failure has been the club’s relegation from the Championship in 2016, which heavily impacted attendances.

Charlton fans are desperate to see the back of Duchatelet, who sold Sint-Truiden last December, and could even get their wish before the end of the season.
