Charlton were never given the chance to meet and discuss a loan move for Arsenal youngster Stephy Mavididi, according to Karl Robinson.

Mavididi’s six-month loan spell with the Addicks was cut short due to a serious hamstring injury last season.

And despite only making five appearances for the club, the 19-year-old impressed Charlton boss Robinson.

The Liverpudlian has watched Mavididi in action for Arsenal against Boreham Wood and Leyton Orient during pre-season. But he is set to lose out on his target, with the striker expected to join Preston North End on a season-long loan.

Robinson told News Shopper: “He was very good. He scored with his left foot on Tuesday and scored two last Thursday. But I know where he’s going.

“We were meant to meet him and for whatever reason, we weren’t given the opportunity to meet him.”

When asked if he thought a deal to bring Mavididi back to the Valley was dead and buried, Robinson added: “I think so.

“Listen, I don’t know whose decision it was in the end but it’s part and parcel of the game.

“He’s someone that we like but it’s just the way football works.”
