CHARLTON defender Michael Morrison admitted confidence levels are low at The Valley after a third straight defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

The Addicks were well beaten 3-0 by the Clarets, a result which left them just one point above the relegation zone.

But although morale is not great within the squad, Morrison believes there is more than enough ability there to quickly turn things around.

He said: “Our form is not brilliant.

“The table doesn’t lie and confidence is not sky high, so it’s about little building blocks and going into the game showing we are hard to beat and going to be tough, and then grow into it and help ourselves.

“We certainly feel like we can turn it around, we’ve done it before.

“We’ve got good enough players and you don’t automatically become a poor team over a summer.

“There have been a few unfortunate things where we should have got points.

“Middlesbrough at home is an example, it was a silly goal for us to concede and would have been 0-0 and a clean sheet, possibly similarly at Huddersfield.

“So it’s a bit unfortunate, but to be honest the standard hasn’t been good enough.”

Morrison added: “The lads know that and we need to pick ourselves up and start again on Tuesday.

“On the back of a disappointing weekend last week we wanted to give a performance for the travelling fans, and more importantly get a result, but it’s not gone either way so very disappointing.

“We need to be harder to beat.

“The goals we conceded today, the third one summed us up.

“We need to be dying for the cause and make sure the game doesn’t go like this. We’ll do that on Tuesday.

“It’s about being harder to beat, having a bit more quality and giving Simon Church and our strikers something to put in the back of the net.”

Morrison also believes the Addicks faithful can play a key role by acting as the club’s proverbial 12th man ahead of two home games in the space of the week against Nottingham Forest and Blackpool.

“I’ve certainly seen it since I’ve been here,” he said.

“The fans can have a big impact.

“It’s down to us to get the game going and give them something to shout about.

“We need to do that and be on the front foot.

“There’s no need to be scared about Forest, there’s a game there to be one.

“Anyone can beat anyone in the Championship this season.

“We beat Leicester at home this season and picked up a good result at Watford, they are there to be beaten.

“Maybe Forest will take us a bit lightly and we’ve got as good a chance as any to get the three points.

“Obviously at the moment the lads are hurting, we’re really disappointed.

“There’s another game in 72 hours and we’ve got to pick ourselves up.

“We did it last year but talk is cheap saying ‘we did this last year, we did that’.

“Now it’s time for us to go out there and dust ourselves down and really go at it.

“Hopefully the fans will be there and get behind us and we can create an atmosphere and siege mentality where we are going to be right at it.

“It’s not clicked for us this season and that’s probably as worse as we’ve played, particularly in the second half.”
