Letter to the editor: The mainstream media obsession with immigration is just a smokescreen to distract voters from challenging the establishment and its failure to address the real issues facing working people in this country.

These include low pay, high rents, the mass privatisation for profit of our NHS and other public services and the wholesale sell of our public spaces, land and buildings for developers’ greed.

How can UKIP supporters truly support a party that opposes immigration and the deportation of people? This is a policy that can and will never happen.

If it did, who would run the NHS, who would care for you when you are sick, who will run and staff our public sector, who will work our farms?

Immigration is no different an agenda than the no black, no Irish, no dogs bigoted hate agenda of the 1950s, when people from around the world who had fought for our country came to the UK to help re-build our homes and our NHS.

The problem in the world is a global failure by the establishment to address poverty in all its forms, putting greed and big business interests before the people.

People Before Profit believes we should start rent controls and build council homes to address local need, not overseas profits and stop allowing big business to pay such low wages.

We are seeing terrible inequality and huge increase in working people forced to use food banks to survive and a political system that voters are starting to realise that does not truly represent their interests.
