HAS anyone looked into the reasons why children are no longer given the BCG vaccination as a matter of course when they reach 14?
Having completed a questionnaire, my child, along with the vast majority of other children, have now been told they are not entitled to the BCG vaccination.
This service will now be reserved for immigrants, children of immigrants and those considered "at high risk".
This means all children born in the UK, unless they travel extensively, are not entitled to nor will they be given the BCG even if they request one.
We are told tuberculosis is on the increase, so if children are no longer going to be be given the BCG this trend will continue?
I tried to pay for the BCG for my son at my GP surgery but was told this was impossible and I should contact the Primary Care Trust.
They can do nothing for me and cannot tell me where I can get the vaccination unless I go to a travel clinic and there is no advice regarding this topic on NHS Direct.
How I can get my son vaccinated?
