TO MOVE on from the horrific story of the near fatal effect on the six human volunteers in the disastrous TGN1412 drug trial, there must now be non-animal alternatives found for drug trials.

TGN1412 was extensively tested on monkeys, using dosages 500 times what was given to the volunteers, with no ill effect to them.

Nearly a third of all new drugs tested on animals with no effect fail in human clinical tests. We must learn from this disaster.

If your readers need information about alternative testing methods, they can contact the National Anti-Vivisectional Society on 020 8846 9777.
