I WAS very interested to read the article about Brian Dawe's reluctance to pay towards the 2012 Olympics (Pensioner Wants To Fight 2012 Tax, News Shopper, February 22).

I heartily agree with his opinions and believe most Londoners are annoyed by this addition to our council tax.

How are Londoners going to benefit from the Games anyway?

Who wants to go all the way to north London to use a swimming pool and pay again for the privilege of doing so?

It is obvious the only financial gains will be made by big businesses, so why shouldn't they fund the Games?

I understand several sporting activities will take place elsewhere, such as sailing.

But has anyone in Dorset or on the south coast been forced to contribute?

The media tells us we are all tremendously pleased about 2012.

I have not spoken to anyone who feels the least bit excited.

High-profile people such as Lord Coe or Dame Kelly Holmes are naturally elated but most ordinary Londoners, especially pensioners, feel as Mr Dawe does enough is enough'.

Well done Mr Dawe for making your stand.
