I AM writing with reference to our new shops in Biggin Hill.

We have recently been allocated a brand new smile' shop, Waitrose, and soon we are to be given a Marks & Spencer food hall.

Has anyone considered the expense? Both Waitrose and Marks & Spencer are notorious for being the most expensive shops.

And I didn't see many buy one get one free offers at Waitrose's opening day.

I like a bit of Marks & Spencer's food at Christmas and nip into Waitrose for a pint of milk but no way could I afford to do a big shop there.

I am a nurse so I consider myself to earn an average wage.

I also have the privilege of being able to drive so I can take myself elsewhere.

However how could people on a pension or single parents on benefits afford to shop there?

Biggin Hill is a fishbowl and it is not easy to get out if you do not drive.

It just seems a bit strange to me these shops are arriving, therefore giving the impression Biggin Hill is an affluent area, which means property prices are rising again.

Are we outpricing Biggin Hill with pure snobbery?

Come on Netto, there is a gap in the market. Bring us your cheap toilet paper and foreign coffee.
