MAST PLANS: I received a letter from Bromley Council, pertaining to the proposal for the "siting of a telecommunications mast on land opposite 81-87 Slades Drive, Chislehurst". I would be the first to admit such masts are an inevitability of modern life, particularly if we want mobile telephones to function efficiently. However in this case the area in question is too close to residential properties. It is frequented by many people throughout the day, with children coming and going to school, and in summer months by children at play. I object to the site proposed on the basis of electro-magnetic radiation generated from such apparatus and the eyesore to the outlook from residential property. Although it has not been proven, it has also not been disproved electro-magnetic radiation generated from such devices is harmful. If a product is suspected of being harmful, one should always err on the side of safety. If such a danger to health is even suspected, surely the council have a duty of care to the people to prevent or reduce the risk? I object most strongly, and ask the council to turn down this application.

CALL 999: In response to More And More Crime In Area (News Shopper, February 22) I am concerned the writer believes we are no longer able to call police directly who can react quickly'. In an emergency you should call 999. The emergency service is for use when an immediate response is required and should be used in situations where a crime is happening or if anyone is in immediate danger. As a senior officer in the borough I can assure you we are committed to providing the service the writer and other residents of the borough are entitled to expect. I can confirm cases of reported disorder in the borough have fallen for the three-month period of November to January, compared to the same three-month period for last year.

BUS LANE: Regarding the bus lane in Cray Avenue. Each day I turn into Station Approach from Cray Avenue and thoughts about safety cross my mind. When taking this turn, it is at the last possible moment you are able to position your car, which is dangerous. Bromley Council should review their decision in a sensible and practical manner for the betterment of safer traffic flow. Regular drivers know to be able to take this turn earlier would not only be safer but it would have an improved effect on traffic movement and would not impede the buses.
