WHEN the present London mayor led the Greater London Council, Bromley Council won a court action against the imposition of a rate levy to subsidise his cheap fares policy, which was deemed illegal.

By comparision, forcing London council tax payers to subsidise a world sporting event is a gross imposition a view shared by many Bexley residents, particularly pensioners and low-income families.

Why has Bexley Council not taken active steps to protect the interest of its residents by pressuring the London mayor, as Bromley did?

Is it so much easier to just accept the extra loading of an already excessive council tax and hand our money over to the demands of an ever more powerful Greater London Authority?
