I WOULD like to respond to both Malcolm Jones and Pastor Jonathan McGill (Following God's Wish/Gay Couples Shouldn't Wed, News Shopper, June 22).

Why is it we as a society are arrogant enough to think marriage is solely a Christian observance, not realising there are records of same-sex marriage from cultures without Christian influence?

The only reason homosexuality is still considered unnatural is because of the outdated views the church is clinging to from the Middle Ages when Christianity ruled on high.

Is it not sufficient these days when two people are in love enough same sex or not to want to sign a piece of paper to say they are one, without the nonsense of genetics?

Has it ever occurred to anyone gays have fought this argument because it is the only way anyone will give them a fair chance?

I do not know what "serious health risks" resulting exclusively from homosexual activity Mr McGill is talking about, since heterosexual activity carries the same risks.
