I very much doubt most of your readers have dared go into the centre of Gravesend on a Friday or Saturday night.
It can be an absolute shambles fighting, unbelievable levels of drunkenness, blood and vomit. Sorry but that is how it often is.
The police do their best but they do not have the manpower to deal with basic order.
They are too busy dealing with the latest person stabbed with a glass or taking back to the police station, for their own safety, incoherent and sick-covered drunks.
Labour was absolutely right to realise something needs to be done about it. The solution? License premises to stay open 24 hours a day.
Did the Government listen to Scotland where this has already proved a disaster?
Did it listen to the NHS which says casualty departments are likely to be overwhelmed?
Certainly nobody listened to the Metropolitan Police which told the Government dealing with this would result in cuts to daytime policing.
The Government is certainly not listening to people in Gravesham who want safe streets.
No. The Government decided the problem could be solved by 24-hour opening. And that is just staggering.
Adam Holloway Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Gravesham
